Broker's Comments

The combination of a Rob Humphreys design and Jeremy Rogers build was bound to be something special! Intended as a modern replacement for the Contessa 32, the Contessa 33, a cruiser-racer began to win races (Owl II is considered by some the most successful UK race boat ever). This particular example is hull no.1 and for the last 15 years has been enjoyed locally on the Solent, club racing and performing well with podium results in Round the Island Race.

The decks are clear with lines leading aft over the coachroof for ease of handling and the cockpit is well laid out and has plenty of space if fully crewed. She looks smart, just enough teak to break up the white without too much maintenance. The transom folds down for access over the stern and she has good useable storage despite the aft berth below.

When you go below the layout is surprising. Traditional in some ways with a large quarter berth aft of the chart table, split heads and basin forward but then unusually the galley runs aft maximising all the available space. The saloon is comfortable and she feels light and fresh, certainly as much a cruiser as a racer with heating and hot water to add to the pleasantries!

I believe they only built 20 Contessa 33's, finding the costs of building to that quality prohibitive so they did not achieve the iconic status of other members of the Jeremy Rogers family. However, their results speak for themselves, she's just relaunched so freshly antifouled and waiting to sail!
